Transformation Through Energy

EEW Energy from Waste GmbH is one of Europe’s leading companies in the field of thermal waste and sewage sludge recovery. With ambitious sustainability goals and a clear focus on digitalization, EEW is pursuing a path toward climate-neutral and climate-positive operations. To support this, Big Pictury developed a “Big Picture” that clearly consolidates digitalization and transformation and highlights the company’s core areas of focus.

Second Big Picture for EEW, implemented within two months

Initial situation & challenge:

A topic for the future with strategic importance

EEW Energy from Waste GmbH has a long history dating back to 1873. Today, EEW employs more than 1,400 people and operates facilities in Germany, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.
For EEW, digitalization is a cornerstone of the company’s development and an important part of its strategy. The challenge was to bring together a wide range of topics—such as digital skills, process optimization, and innovation—into a coherent overall picture.

The Solution: A Clear Vision for Digital Transformation

The Big Picture translates the topic of Digitalization & Transformation into an easy-to-understand visual structure. It highlights key areas of responsibility, core topics, and interconnections, thereby providing guidance for internal communication. This makes it clear how digitalization is integrated into daily work and life at EEW and what role it plays on the path to becoming a digital leader.

Individual scenes

A man is holding up a red flag that reads "Willingness to change" in front of a woman dressed in construction worker's clothing.
Digital transformation begins with a willingness to explore new paths. At EEW, we actively support this transformation by raising employees’ awareness of digital topics and strengthening their digital skills.
A man wearing VR glasses at his desk is using the warehouse scanner app, 3D scan, customer portal, and Office 365.
New applications such as the warehouse scanner app, 3D scanning, the customer portal, and Office 365 support the integration of digital solutions into everyday work. This makes processes easier to understand, information more accessible, and collaboration more efficient.

Digitalization is a key component of EEW’s long-term business development. This transformation lays an important foundation for further developing work processes, fostering innovation, and positioning EEW for the future.

This is how the big picture came about

Working closely with EEW, Big Pictury developed a custom Big Picture for digital and print applications within two months. The process combined strategic insight with a clear, vivid visual language.
1. Workshop & Analysis
At the outset, the key concepts related to digitalization and transformation were systematically documented. The focus was on the areas of responsibility, core topics, and objectives, which were to be presented in a way that was clear and memorable for EEW.
2. Prototyping & Iteration
Based on the content, a clear visual concept took shape step by step. EEW’s specific requests were quickly taken into account, coordinated, and incorporated directly into the design.
3. Feedback & Finalization
The final "Big Picture" was developed for use in both digital and print formats. The result is a clear, comprehensive overview that simplifies complex content and makes digital transformation tangible.

Effect & Results

The Big Picture helps EEW convey digitalization and transformation as an interconnected process. It creates a shared visual foundation for raising employee awareness of digital topics and communicating key objectives in a clear and understandable way.

"Presenting Complex Content in a Simple Way"

"This is already our second 'Big Picture' project, which clearly demonstrates how strongly we believe in simplified visual representations of complex content."
