Initial situation & challenge:

A vision with far-reaching implications
Energieversorgung Oberhausen AG is a regional energy provider and a reliable partner for Oberhausen and the surrounding area. With approximately 110,000 electricity customers, about 27,000 gas customers, heat supply for around 50,000 residents, and approximately 430 employees, EVO plays a central role in ensuring energy security, advancing the energy transition, and enhancing quality of life in the region. As part of a new corporate vision and strategy, the executive team had developed clear guidelines and seven key objectives. The challenge was not only to communicate these concepts but also to make them tangible for all employees: understandable, emotionally accessible, and closely connected to the city of Oberhausen.

The Solution: A Visual Story for Oberhausen

The Big Picture translates EVO’s new vision into a shared vision of the future. It highlights the strategic cornerstones, the top priorities, and the company’s role as an integral part of the city. It makes it clear that EVO does far more than just supply electricity, gas, and heat: it stands for progress, safety, sustainability, and quality of life. The visualization establishes a clear connection between corporate strategy, employees, and the future of Oberhausen.
Our vision: EVO, PART OF OUR CITY—an urban landscape featuring buildings, energy supply, infrastructure, and people.

Workplace safety is a key priority for EVO and the foundation of a reliable energy supply. Clear rules, responsible behavior, and mutual vigilance in our daily work are essential. In this way, safety becomes a shared responsibility for all employees.

EVO’s new corporate vision focuses on a smarter and more sustainable energy supply. Process optimization and digitalization are making operations more transparent, efficient, and manageable. The goal is to use data, systems, and collaboration to drive concrete improvements for the company.

As a regional energy provider, EVO is actively helping to shape Oberhausen’s sustainable future. This vision for the future is based on the targeted expansion of solar power, electric mobility, and heat pumps. In this way, environmental sustainability is not merely an abstract concept, but becomes a tangible and visible part of everyday life in the city.

This is how the big picture came about

Following an in-depth briefing and the provision of visual materials and background information, Big Pictury developed the visualization in close collaboration with EVO. Step by step, an image emerged that brings together strategy, urban context, and corporate identity.
1. Briefing, data collection, and analysis
Initially, the content of the new corporate vision, the strategic guidelines, and the seven key objectives was documented. In addition, EVO provided visual materials and background information so that the city, the company, and key messages could be accurately translated into visual imagery.
2. Drafts, Coordination, and Further Development
Over the course of several rounds of consultation, ideas were gathered, refined, and further developed visually. Particular attention was paid to depicting the city of Oberhausen and EVO’s main and administrative building in the correct proportions. Various designs were created for this purpose, from which the client could select the most suitable direction.
3. Finalization, Implementation, and Handover
After the final review, the Big Picture was adapted for various formats. This resulted in a version for distribution in print, an XXL installation on acrylic glass, and a digital click-picture application for the intranet. This ensured that the vision remained visible both in print and digitally.

Effect & Results

The finished Big Picture accompanies EVO employees in their day-to-day work and keeps the new corporate vision front and center. It has been distributed to all employees, displayed in key locations throughout the company, and made available as a clickable application on the intranet. This ensures that our shared journey toward a more sustainable and smarter future remains visible and tangible at all times.

"A key instrument for transformation"

“We see ourselves in the big picture—as a company and as part of our city. When combined with our corporate vision and strategic cornerstones, this is the perfect, visual representation.”
