Initial situation & challenge: Making structure visible

The SIGNAL IDUNA Group's human resources department comprises many teams, areas of responsibility, and services that were often difficult for employees and internal customers to understand. Traditional organizational charts offered little guidance and did little to convey how the various departments work together. The challenge was to create a representation that shows the structure, services, and responsibilities of human resources in a clear, easy-to-understand visual world—and thus provides orientation for employees and internal customers.

The solution: A big picture for human resources

The big picture presents human resources as a networked, shared service unit. Teams, areas of responsibility, and services were visualized in such a way that their interrelationships are visible at a glance. Instead of abstract lists, a metaphorical imagery (e.g., the ship as a symbol for a shared mission) conveys how human resources is organized and what services it provides. The supplementary click picture version allows users to delve deeper into individual areas and interactively access further information.

This is how the big picture came about

The big picture for SIGNAL IDUNA's human resources department was developed in close collaboration with the project team. Existing content and structures were prepared in such a way that they could be presented in a consistent overall visual image. Step by step, this resulted in a visual world that makes the structure, tasks, and services of the human resources department easy to understand.

1. Clarify content and structure

Teams, areas of responsibility, and services were jointly compiled, prioritized, and transferred into a clear content structure.

2. Develop visual imagery

Based on this structure, a visual representation was created that clearly illustrates the structure, responsibilities, and interrelationships of human resources.

3. Fine-tuning & coordination

In several feedback loops, the imagery was refined, supplemented, and designed in such a way that it is easy to understand and use in everyday work.

Effect & Results

The Big Picture helps SIGNAL IDUNA's human resources department clearly communicate its structure, tasks, and services. Employees and internal customers can find their way around more quickly, which noticeably reduces the burden on internal processes. The visualization also strengthens the role of human resources as a central service unit within the company.

"A new approach to clear communication in human resources"

"The importance of open and transparent information and communication is growing in an increasingly complex working world. With the big picture of human resources, we at the SIGNAL IDUNA Group are therefore breaking new ground in marketing our organization and our range of services within our own organization and to our customers. After all, we too have to prove our value contribution time and again and keep inspiring our employees!"
