Initial Situation & Challenge: A Far-Reaching Transformation
Salzgitter Digital Solutions GmbH is a leading IT services company within Salzgitter AG. The company supports key functions related to organizational consulting, information processing, services, and data center operations.
As part of comprehensive restructuring measures, the workforce grew from around 210 to approximately 450 employees in 2022. At the same time, the demands posed by decarbonization, digitalization, and IT security increased significantly. The challenge was to explain these developments clearly, provide guidance, and rally employees from two companies behind the shared transformation.
The Solution: A Visual Story for Transformation
The Big Picture translates the transformation process into a clear, easily understandable visual framework. A path leads from the current starting point to a new, effective “mechanism” in which key elements such as employee development, corporate strategy, customer focus, and the value system are interlinked. This makes it clear how the company is evolving, which components are driving the change, and where the shared journey is headed. The visualization combines orientation with a sense of identification and makes complex relationships understandable at a glance.

At the outset, the key elements of the transformation process were structured, condensed, and translated into a visual guiding concept. Step by step, this gave rise to a “big picture” that clearly and memorably illustrates the company’s development.
1. Workshop & Analysis
In the first step, the initial situation, growth dynamics, and the goals of the restructuring were identified. The focus was on the company’s new size, the rising demand for IT services, and the desire for greater transparency.
2. Prototyping & Iteration
The complex interrelationships were translated into an easy-to-understand visual concept. The transformation process was depicted as a journey leading to the smooth interaction of various gears. The result is an image that conveys development, structure, and collaboration in equal measure.
3. Feedback & Finalization
After consultation and refinement, the Big Picture was finalized and presented for the first time during Welcome Days. All company employees were invited to experience the transformation together. The visualization quickly drew attention and was received with great enthusiasm.
