Initial Situation & Challenge: Many Measures, One Goal

Stadtwerke Bruchsal is actively shaping the transformation of the energy supply sector and is facing a multitude of parallel developments. In addition to expanding renewable energy sources—such as wind and solar power plants—the company is exploring new approaches to heat supply and further developing existing networks. At the same time, new offerings are emerging for households and businesses that go beyond traditional energy supply. These changes are complex because they involve different time frames, technical interdependencies, and stakeholder groups. Measures such as the construction of new heating networks or the gradual phase-out of natural gas must be planned for the long term, made economically viable, and communicated clearly. For residents, businesses, and employees, it was not always immediately apparent how these individual measures were connected or what overarching goal they were pursuing. The challenge was to present the energy transition in Bruchsal as a cohesive process, provide guidance, and create a common basis for discussion—one that is clear, transparent, and conducive to dialogue.

The Solution: Finding Your Way Through Change

The Big Picture brings together Stadtwerke Bruchsal’s strategic direction in a single, unified vision. It illustrates how existing services and new initiatives—such as renewable energy generation, modern grid infrastructure, and sustainable heating solutions—are part of a long-term, comprehensive strategy. This visual representation clearly illustrates how individual measures interlock and complement one another. The image shows how the energy supply is changing step by step and what role Stadtwerke Bruchsal plays in this process. In this way, the Big Picture helps foster understanding of complex topics, provides guidance, and serves as a foundation for discussions with residents, partners, and employees.

More Than Just a Utility Company
In addition to its energy-related responsibilities, Stadtwerke Bruchsal takes on responsibility for the region. It is committed to sports, culture, and the community, and transparently opens its doors to citizens—as an active participant in public life.

In the future as well
In addition to providing energy today, Stadtwerke Bruchsal is actively shaping the future of energy. Sustainable projects, new supply concepts, and long-term investments demonstrate how the company is taking responsibility for the region today—with an eye toward tomorrow.

This is how the big picture came about

To present Stadtwerke Bruchsal’s transformation strategy in a clear and consistent manner, the “Big Picture” was developed in stages. The goal was to clearly structure the content, highlight connections, and create a visual framework that would provide guidance and remain useful over the long term.
1. Clarify content and structure
Together, strategic goals, projects, and areas of investment were identified, organized, and integrated into an overall framework.
2. Development of the visual style
The content was translated into a vivid visual narrative that connects the present, development, and future of the municipal utilities.
3. Fine-tuning & coordination
Through several rounds of voting, the content of the Big Picture was refined and tailored for clarity and versatility.

Effect & Results

The Big Picture serves as a central communication tool for Stadtwerke Bruchsal’s transformation strategy. It helps make complex projects more tangible and fosters dialogue with various stakeholders.

"A valuable tool for our renovation"

“The Big Picture impressively demonstrates just how diverse and complex our tasks will be in the coming years. It highlights not only the breadth of our future projects, but also the fact that the energy transition and the associated infrastructure development are by no means a sure thing. Rather, it becomes clear that these major transformation processes can only succeed through close and trusting cooperation with all relevant stakeholders—the city administration, local tradespeople, policymakers, and, in particular, the citizens. This collaboration is the key to the success and acceptance of our projects.”
"For us—both internally and externally—this 'big picture' is an extraordinarily valuable tool. It serves as a guide to help us navigate the complexity of the challenges ahead while building confidence in our long-term strategy and our ability to implement it. It is a key communication tool that brings our vision to life and unites all stakeholders on a shared path."
