Initial Situation & Challenge: Conveying the Diversity of Municipal Utilities in an Accessible Way
Stadtwerke Huntetal is the regional partner for energy and water supply in the city of Diepholz, as well as in the joint municipalities of Barnstorf and Rehden and the municipality of Wagenfeld. In addition to ensuring a reliable supply of electricity, gas, water, and heat, Stadtwerke Huntetal is also committed to issues such as e-mobility, grid infrastructure, and sustainable energy supply.
The challenge was to present these diverse tasks and services in a clear and understandable way. Residents should be able to see at a glance how Stadtwerke contributes to supply security, the energy transition, and life in the region.
The Solution: A Comprehensive Approach to Energy, Utilities, and Community Engagement
The Big Picture illustrates the energy and utilities landscape in the Huntetal as an integrated system. It brings together renewable energy sources, water treatment plants, grid infrastructure, storage solutions, heat pumps, and consulting and service offerings in a single overview.
This creates a clear overview that explains the services provided by the municipal utility in an accessible way and illustrates its role in the region.
Individual scenes
The scene shows a residential building equipped with solar panels, a storage system, a heat pump, and a wallbox. It illustrates how the municipal utility provides modern energy solutions for residential customers and effectively integrates various technologies.
Here, the work being done on power lines and grids—which usually takes place behind the scenes—becomes visible. The scene highlights how important the ongoing expansion and maintenance of the infrastructure are for a reliable supply.
The scene highlights support for regional activities and organizations, such as sports clubs. It demonstrates that the municipal utilities are not just service providers, but actively contribute to community life in the region.
This is how the big picture came about
We developed the Big Picture in close consultation with stakeholders at Stadtwerke Huntetal through an iterative process. Step by step, we gathered and organized content and ultimately transformed it into a visual representation of the region.
1. Workshop & Analysis
In collaboration with the municipal utilities, key topics were identified—ranging from energy generation and grid infrastructure to water treatment plants and services for residential customers.
2. Prototyping & Iteration
Based on this content, an initial visual concept was developed as a draft, depicting the Huntetal region with its towns and local services. The visual concept was further refined through several rounds of consultation.
3. Feedback & Finalization
In the final phase, all scenes and content were post-produced and prepared for use in print and digital formats.
Effect & Results
"The Big Picture" highlights the role that Stadtwerke Huntetal plays in the region and clearly explains the services that support the daily supply of energy and water. It helps to clearly explain complex issues related to infrastructure, sustainability, and utility services.
