A "Big Picture" was created for Stadtwerke Quickborn that clearly brings together its services and values. The goal was to highlight what the utility stands for and the contribution it makes to the region every day.

Starting Point & Challenge: High Performance – Low Visibility

Every day, Stadtwerke Quickborn plays a key role in serving the region—from energy and water to digital services and personalized advice. At the same time, the utility is actively involved in the local community, for example by supporting clubs, educational institutions, and local events. For many customers, however, this broader picture remains hidden. In everyday life, public utilities are often reduced to individual products like electricity, gas, or water. What happens beyond that—such as services, infrastructure, consulting, or regional engagement—often remains in the background. The challenge was to convey this big picture in an understandable way. The goal was not to explain individual offerings in detail, but to show how everything fits together: who Stadtwerke is, what it stands for, what it actually does—and what contribution it makes to the region.

The solution: An overview that summarizes what the municipal utilities are

The Big Picture brings together the services and mission of the municipal utility company within a clear visual framework and integrates them with a depiction of the region. Key themes such as energy supply, personalized consulting, and regional engagement are illustrated through concrete scenes. This makes it clear how the individual services work together and what contribution they make to the daily lives of people in the region.
In addition to providing in-person consultations, the exhibition also highlights the utility company’s social initiatives—such as its support for sports clubs and local events—and underscores how closely the company is connected to the region.
The Big Picture thus provides external context: It helps customers understand the role of the municipal utility, build trust, and better understand its offerings.

This is how the big picture came about

Even before the project began, Quickborn Municipal Utilities outlined their vision for the Big Picture. This allowed us to identify and narrow down various topics early on. The kick-off meeting then served to translate these ideas into a visual format. The resulting draft was refined through several iterations until the final Big Picture was created.

The content was translated into concrete, everyday scenarios—with a focus on local relevance and tangible examples.

The image has been designed to be flexible enough to be used in a variety of communication contexts.

The Big Picture serves as a key communication tool for Stadtwerke Quickborn. It highlights the organization’s services, fosters understanding, and supports external communication. It helps initiate conversations with local residents and demonstrates that Stadtwerke is accessible and does more than just provide utilities. Whether through consultations or at events, the Big Picture helps explain services clearly and build trust.
