Under the project name “Modern Workplace,” a comprehensive approach to location-flexible work, new forms of collaboration, and modern digital tools was developed. Big Pictury created a visual communication package for this initiative that makes complex changes easy to understand and motivates employees to get involved. The Big Picture provides guidance, illustrates concrete everyday situations, and makes the cultural shift within the company tangible.

Initial Situation & Challenge: A Far-Reaching Transformation
Techniker is Germany’s largest nationwide health insurance provider, serving 11.8 million customers. With approximately 190 locations and about 14,000 employees, the company faces the challenge of communicating modern work arrangements in a way that is clear and accessible across many departments.
With “Modern Workplace,” Die Techniker developed a comprehensive set of measures for location-flexible work, new collaboration spaces, and digital tools and apps. The challenge was not only to explain this transformation but also to encourage employees to take more initiative, be more open, and engage in continuous learning.
The Solution: A Vision for New Collaboration
Big Pictury developed a comprehensive “Big Picture” that brings together the key aspects of the modern workplace in a clear visual narrative. Specific example scenarios illustrate how new workspaces, digital collaboration, learning, and personal responsibility interact in everyday work life. To complement this, a “Click Picture” was created for independent exploration of the content, as well as a whiteboard version for interactive use in workshops. In this way, a complex change project was transformed into a vivid communication format that provides guidance and fosters engagement.
This is how the big picture came about
Following a brief briefing phase, the team worked together to clarify the goals, content, and communication requirements of the “Modern Workplace” project. Building on this, a multi-stage development process was established, featuring workshops, visual iteration, and final refinement.
1. Workshop & Analysis
To begin with, Big Pictury identified the project’s tasks, objectives, and key messages. In workshops with executives and relevant stakeholders in change communication, the most important topics, scenarios, and requirements were identified.
2. Prototyping & Iteration
A whiteboard version in Conceptboard was used for the development. The individual visual elements could be flexibly moved, duplicated, scaled, and labeled, allowing content to be discussed, adapted, and refined directly during the workshop.
3. Feedback & Finalization
The agreed-upon content was used to create a detailed “Big Picture” featuring numerous visual elements and real-life example scenarios. In addition, a digital “Click Picture” was developed, which allows employees to explore the content on their own and effectively complements internal communication.
Effect & Results
Die Techniker uses "The Big Picture" in its internal communications to convey the changes associated with the Modern Workplace in a way that is both understandable and motivating. In workshops, the Conceptboard version encourages active engagement with the content, while the Click Picture allows for individual exploration. The visual communication package was received with great enthusiasm and quickly attracted the attention and interest of the workforce.
