About the company
PLEdoc GmbH, based in Essen (North Rhine-Westphalia), is a subsidiary of Open Grid Europe (OGE), one of Europe’s leading transmission system operators, specialising in infrastructure data. With around 250 employees, PLEdoc documents and digitises technical networks and facilities – from gas and telecommunications infrastructure to IT-supported geodata processes.
Together with PLEdoc, a big picture was developed – a visual overview that presents the diverse tasks, responsibilities and interfaces within the company in a clear and understandable way.
The task – making complexity visible
In a data- and process-oriented environment such as PLEdoc, it is important that all employees have a clear picture of how their work fits into the big picture. The Big Picture serves as a visual link between the specialist areas – and creates a common understanding across departmental boundaries.

Implementation – cooperation on equal terms
The Big picture was created in close consultation with the teams. Among other things, it depicts:
- Network documentation, plant documentation and network information
- IT and data management
- Controlling and project management
- Human resources, management and works council
- as well as relevant interfaces to external partners and customers
The visualisation is practical, future-oriented and individually tailored to the structures and culture of PLEdoc.
The added value – orientation and communication
The Big picture is now used across departments – for example, in the onboarding of new colleagues, in internal training courses or in strategic planning. It supports dialogue between teams, promotes understanding of interrelationships and strengthens internal networking.
